Monday Mash

  • Yvette and I were in the gym at 4:50 am this morning, the first time in at least a couple of months. It felt great even if my body told me I wasn’t strong enough to do my old dumbbell routine.
  • Almost a week and a half with Yvette’s mom staying with us. The transition has been a lot smoother than I originally thought. It will be strange when she heads back to El Paso at the end of July.
  • Wanted to go camping with friends this weekend, but it couldn’t happen. Looking forward to our camping trip at Canyon Lake in August.
  • Closing in on a year of maintaining my weight at or below 160 lbs. A couple of weeks ago, Yvette finally made me donate the last of my big clothes that I had been holding onto for just in case.
  • Had a great time meeting with friends for dinner and drinks last week. Wish we could do it more often.
  • Pleased that we paid off another bill this month as we work towards becoming debt free, except for the house. It is a slow process, but Yvette and I are making progress every month.

  • A blog post by Zak White on goals has got me thinking differently on how I want to tackle 2010. More to come while I think about turning my resolutions into goals.
  • Had alot of fun babysitting Wyatt this past weekend, but wish it had occured for different reasons.
  • Excited that Sarah, my super smart sister, actually called me for advice. She is considering buying a house and wanted my input.
  • Extremely happy with changes that Yvette is trying to make in her life. I am here to support her.
  • Actually looking forward to our carpets getting professionally cleaned on Saturday. The first time since we moved in over six years ago. All of the previous times involved Yvette, me and the Rug Doctor.
  • Also looking forward to getting new furniture delivered on Saturday. I can’t share why yet (it’s not a child), but be patient until April for the news.
  • One of my goals (see the first bullet) is to get off my behind and work towards my graduate degree. Next week I get to drag Yvette to an orientation at the University of Texas. I am hoping that she’ll want to start going back to school too.
  • This past weekend, I managed to run on 3 or 4 fire calls including a small structure fire. That’s more calls than I had run the previous month. I forgot how much fun I have, just need to set aside time to run more calls.
  • Looking forward to this Sunday when Larissa and Justin Ely drag Yvette and I to their church for a tryout.
  • Had a relaxing three days off, but not happy that I chose to be lazy instead of pulling down the Christmas lights.
  • Excited that I am going to be able to catch up to my best friend who I haven’t seen or spoken with since my wedding, 13 years ago. I tracked him down through his mom on Facebook.
  • Just plain happy to be able to blog my thoughts today.
  • Also pleased that today, which tends to be one of the busiest days in our Tele-Centers all year long, has not been that bad.

  • All by myself today; Yvette took a vacation day to finish up shopping.
  • Had a great start to the weekend; dinner with Larissa and Payton Ely on Friday and then we got to babysit Payton until Saturday afternoon.
  • While babysitting was fun, it pushed back our plans to see “The Blind Side” until this upcoming weekend.
  • Yvette and I teamed up on cooking yesterday and had a good time together. We made tacos, with fried shells, for dinner, a pot of vegetable soup for the week, as well as a few meatloaf meals. I just had some of the soup for lunch and it tasted great.
  • I went back to the gym this morning, the first time in a few weeks. It was good to see the regular faces while trying to get back into the routine.
  • Ran one fire department call Sunday, but wish there had been more.
  • Not looking forward to my annual physical this week, except that I want to show off my weight loss.
  • Not happy that I made a work-related mistake Sunday; I fixed it this morning, but one more phone call would have caught the error yesterday.
  • Wishing that our television shows weren’t taking the next two months off.
  • Need to finish reading a book I started, “Take Back Your Life with Microsoft Office Outlook 2007”.

  • Weight: 166.6 lbs | Goal: 160.0 lbs (for now)
  • It is a little hard to believe that I have lost almost 30 pounds in 3 months.  I wish I could lose a little more of my stomach.
  • Yvette and I were a real team this weekend between cleaning, cooking and just being happily married.
  • We saw Madagascar 2 this weekend.  It is one of those rare occasions when the sequel is better than the original movie.
  • Hoping that the Texas Longhorns win the College World Series.
  • Saddened, but proud, that one of my employees is moving on to a new job this Wednesday.

    • Weight: 179.4 lbs | Goal: 160.0 lbs
    • I lost 1.4 pounds last week. It wasn’t as much as I had hoped for, but the weekend hurt my numbers a little. On the bright side, it’s the first time that I have weighed less than 180 pounds in almost two years.
    • Three weeks now and we still love the early morning workouts, it’s just the alarm going off so early that we could do without.
    • Yvette and I had a busy weekend. I spent very little time in front of the television or computer. Saturday started with working out, yard work, the Pecan Street Festival and then the UT/A&M softball game, which they lost.
    • We babysit Payton on Saturday evening and into Sunday. We had a blast. The last time we had her she was just beginning to stand on her own, now she is walking all over the place.
    • Larissa and Justin, Payton’s parents, invited us over for an incredible dinner on Sunday. We had some small steaks and ribs that Justin cooked on the grill along with baked potatoes and asparagus. We finished it off with some make it yourself strawberry shortcake. Just one day off the diet, but it showed.
    • Yvette and I skipped our big anniversary vacation this year due to the economy; however, I am getting the serious itch to take a 4-day cruise out of Galveston. We don’t know if we’ll be able to scratch it, but it is sure fun trying by just planning a possible trip.
    • Jesse is doing much better. We were able to pick up a playpen at a garage sale so know he is out of his cage during the day. We’re still slowly working on his weight.
    • I am so looking forward to seeing the new Star Trek movie this weekend.
